How does Alcohol affect Fat Loss?
✅ Extra Calories & Increased Cravings:
The calories in alcohol itself will build up and add to your daily/weekly calorie intake. BUT so will the calories on the food or snacks consumed in the pub during or the take away on the way home..Not to mention the hangover food you are craving the next day!
✅ Increased Cortisol:
Alcohol increases your cortisol levels; increased cortisol makes it more difficult to burn fat efficiently. Overtime, this may be an inhibiting factor in your fat loss phase if consuming alcohol very regularly.
✅ Disrupted Sleep:
Alcohol consumption has a negative impact on your sleep; specifically your deep sleep! Deep sleep is crucial for muscle recovery, controlling hunger hormones and energy levels. If sleep is disrupted this can have a negative affect on your activity output throughout the week!
✅ Dehydration:
Alcohol consumption also has a negative impact on your hydration status; a night on the 'booze' will leave you dehydrated, cause water retention & feelings of being bloated & sluggish!
✅ Poor Gym Performance:
Your performance in the gym will be impacted negatively from alcohol consumption also, as a result of strength, energy & endurance being reduced. Overtime, if consumed regularly this will also impact your goals!
You do not need to COMPLETELY eliminate alcohol when in a fat loss phase BUT you do need to decrease the amount you consume considerably - IF you want to achieve your GOALS & see PROGRESS!
