Beginner Runners - Top Tips

Want to get into your Running Era?

Want to do your local Park Run?

But feeling..

Afraid?

Overwhelmed?

As if you cant tackle it?

Follow my Top Tips to ensure your running journey is a SUCCES!

 Tip 1. Training Plan ✅

  • Invest in a coach or a running training plan to follow! Luckily for you at the EMA we are experienced in programming running plans✔️

  • Give yourself plenty of time to TRAIN! If booking a race or planning to complete a park run - allow yourself TIMNE! Being well prepared will not only enhance your running capability but also your confidence.

Tip 2. Run at YOUR pace✅

Run at YOUR own pace! Run SLOW and at what feels comfortable. Its important to be able to relax and enjoy your sessions when beginning especially! Whether that means an interchange between running and walking or running for 10 minutes - whatever your starting point is..its YOUR starting point!

Its YOU vs. YOU - don't compare your journey to anyone else's!

Tip 3. Mindset is CRUCIAL✅

This journey is NOT going to be EASY but it is going to be WORTH it! The voice in your head will tell you to give up. You may have to stop to walk and catch your breath. You will go through period of catching a RUNNERS HIGH and periods of wanting to quit...Just know ALL of this is NORMAL...ALL of these thoughts are OK!

Its part of the journey..ENJOY the process!

Keep lacing up your trainers and getting out there because it will come together...I promise you that!

Think of running as your own personal FREE therapy space and your opportunity to switch off from the world!

Tip 4: Cross-Training ✅

  • Gym 2-3 times per week if possible to REDUCE the liklihood of INJURY!

This is often overlooked but...

Building muscle will also aid in building resilience to injury!

  • Increasing running mileage can leave your muscles & joints feeling tired/sore/achey etc. ensuring you are also following a good gym program will help in this area!

Tip 5: Sleep & Nutrition ✅

  • Sleep at least 8 hours per night to allow your body to recover fully!

  • More running = More ENERGY needed to PERFORM = More FUEL (Food).

Tip 6: Enjoy the Process! ✅

Don't compare yourself to others..Everyone has a different fitness background!

Sometimes running enjoyment comes in the form of buying new runners, running with a friend, posting on Strava or just feeling ‘faster’ and ‘fitter’ in

general! However...

You wont always enjoy it or want to run...This is where your DISCIPLINE

comes in!

...I promise IF you let your discipline kick in, you WILL be happy post run! You NEVER regret a run!
