We’ve all been there — standing in front of a restaurant buffet, surrounded by endless options and wondering how to enjoy the experience without undoing your progress...
The good news?
You absolutely CAN enjoy a buffet and still stay aligned with your goals! It’s all about making more mindful choices!
The EMA's Top Buffet Tips:
1. Do a “preview lap” first!
Before grabbing a plate, walk around and check out all your options!
This helps you make intentional choices instead of piling on food just because it’s there. It also allows you to think about your choices more, rather than making impulsive decisions!
2. Start with protein and veggies!
Build your plate around lean proteins (such as grilled chicken, fish, eggs, or beans) and plenty of vegetables.
Always go back to basics and ensure your plate is BALANCED! This will keep you full, satisfied, and satiated!
3. Don't avoid Carbs!
You don’t have to skip carbs! But be smart and selective!
Pick one or two that you truly enjoy, Try to opt for carbs that will serve you best, such as a complex carbohydrate that will release energy for several hours after consuming, such as oats, potatoes or wholegrain rice/pasta!
4. Watch portion sizes!
It’s easy to overfill your plate at a buffet...
Start with small portions - you can always go back for more if you’re still hungry!
5. Stay hydrated!
Thirst can sometimes feel like hunger. Sip water throughout your meal to stay mindful and avoid overeating. Staying hydrated will also help with digestion so ticking two boxes at once here!
6. Choose dessert mindfully!
If you want dessert, enjoy it! Just skip the “sampling everything” approach. Choose one or two small treats you’ll truly enjoy, but stay accountable to it!
7. Mind your mindset!
Remember, a buffet isn’t a “free-for-all” or a “cheat.” It’s just another opportunity to practice balance, awareness, and confidence in your choices!
The goal isn’t perfection...it’s feeling proud of your decisions and in control!
You can enjoy social occasions and still make progress! It just takes a little planning and mindfulness.
